My Thoughts on Remote Learning

Image
Here are my thoughts on remote Learning. I have both positive and negative points. Remember that these thoughts are from the point of view of this teacher. Positive Points: I love the short commute which means I can sleep in a little bit. I get up at 7:20 each morning instead of 5:30 I can go to the bathroom whenever I want. I don't have to wait until class ends and then worry about being late to my next class. This definitely helped me out with my kidney issues. I didn't have to worry about what outfit I was going to wear for the day. Since none was going to see me I just threw on shorts and a t-shirt every day I can eat lunch whenever I am hungry There was senior car parade. That was so much fun. I hope that is one Corona virus tradition we keep. Negative Points: I didn't get to be with my students. I missed the everyday interaction so much We didn't get to have the Mr. NHS show. I love this show and the boys worked so hard to put it together. W...

National Cancer Survivors Day

Image
I want to congratulate all my fellow cancer survivors. I a so glad that I live in a time that a cancer diagnosis is not a death sentence. Thank you  to all the doctors and researchers coming up with new treatments and cures all the time. I was first diagnosed with a tumor in the middle lobe of my right lung in January of 2005. I had a PET scan on Thursday and I got a phone call from my doctor Friday afternoon saying he made an appointment for me with a thoracic surgeon for Tuesday because Monday was a holiday. Wasn't much longer until I had surgery to remove the lobe and the tumor. Turned out it was cancer but the surgery got everything and the lymph nodes were clear so the surgery cured me. I just needed 3 months to recover from the surgery. Ten years later, in June, my doctor told me I was clear. No need for any more scans after this many years,"IT" wasn't coming back.  YAY, I had a party to celebrate but the celebration didn't last long as I was diagno...

Being Nice

Image
The longer this #StayatHome order goes on the more important it is to find things to do that make you happy and connect with people that make you happy. My daughter is doing her part to make people smile. She is painting rocks and placing them outside for people to see as they go for walks in our neighborhood I am so glad she is here with me through this time since my husband goes to work everyday. It's always nice to have someone to talk to and we try to have our daily card game. Since she is placing the positive rock messages around I was so happy that someone did something nice for her. On the night before her birthday my sister came to my house after dark and placed a happy birthday sign in the yard for Jennifer to see on the morning of her birthday. My sister, Eileen, is placing these signs all over her town of Wareham to lift spirits. Let;s all try to think positive and be nice to one another. Hopefully better days are coming soon .

Time is going by pretty fast

Image
Hello everyone. The thought of staying home every day all day did not sound make me very happy, but I seem to be doing pretty good. The days fly by which surprises me. My family takes advantage of each day that has good weather (not too many) to get outside to do yard work and make things for the yard. The latest creation is the cinder block bench Now we have to buy a cushion.  One of my students send me a picture of something she saw that she thought I would like. This may be the next thing we do in this yard. My student wasn't the only one thinking of me and my Disney obsession. I got a quarantine t-shirt in the mail from my sister. Thanks Eileen. Looks like this post is turning into a Disney post. Well I might as well keep up with that theme. The teachers were allowed to go into school to get any supplies we needed. While I was there I took  few Mickeys off my office wall and now this is what is left, Two months left to do remote teaching and then one m...

Thank you to my town - Plainville, MA

Image
So what did you do on this gorgeous day when you were supposed to #StayatHome? I went to a fire engine parade in my front yard. The fire department in Plainville had a parade where they went to every part of town. I loved the signs they had on the fire trucks. One sign said "Be the reason someone smiles" well they were the reason that I smiled today. I want to thank the fire department for doing that. I believe that was uplifting for everyone in town. We love our fire fighters! We love all our first responders out there risking their lives to save our lives. THANK YOU

Too much sadness

Image
It is 8am on a Thursday morning as I start to write this post for my blog. This has been a hard week for me as I have had multiple break downs. So many things making me sad this week. To start, In the past 2 weeks my family has had to deal with several family and friends passing away. Seven to be exact. Only one from the corona-virus and one was much too young. I don't like having to keep my distance and not being able to hug family or say goodbye to the friends we lost. Even as I type this I am crying again. This remote learning sucks. Sorry but no other word comes to mind. I hate not being able to be with my kids. The zoom meetings just aren't enough for me. I miss being in front of the class and teaching them. I miss their laughter. I miss being in my office and having students just pop in and say hello as they are on their way to some other place in the school building. I miss getting and giving them hugs. I want to be able to see my son in person. He is at Fort Sill ...

Remote learning week one done

Image
I survived my first week of remote teaching. Hopefully my students did well with their first week of remote learning. I had them fill out a survey and I had many students ask for more video lessons. So I spent the second half of this week making videos to teach the kids about solving trig equations. I guess its the next best thing to being there. Miss them so much and this teaching online is so much work. I am at my computer from 8am until 4-5 pm and then back at the computer around 8 pm to check work because my teenagers like to sleep in and do the school work late afternoon/early evening. I know the governor's order has us back in school on May 4th but I don't think that is going to happen. I really hope I am wrong about this but I don't think we will be back in school in May. Let me say this again, I really hope I am wrong about that! Today we had some nice weather so I got the chance to get outside. Didn't really do anything except water my veggies that are grow...
