Favorite time of the year

Anyone who knows me is aware that this is my favorite time of the year. From Halloween until the end of snow season. The holiday specials are about to air on television and to make sure I don't miss any I have 3 websites that I check regularly and I will post updates here, I can't list everyone of the specials but I will do my best to list lots of times and channels.
ABC Family has the 25 days of Christmas with lots of Christmas specials every day during December. Before December, starting November 23rd, ABC Family has the countdown to the 25 days of Christmas. There aren't too many Christmas themed shows on during that time though.

A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving airs on ABC at 8pm on November 26th then the Christmas specials begin.  The day after Thanksgiving CBS  is airing Frosty the Snowman and Yes, Virginia there is a Santa Claus. December 1st ABC Family is airing my favorite at 5pm, Santa Claus is coming to town. I'll be watching. As the date gets closer I will post the names of more shows.

Now we just need some snow to make this holiday season perfect.

Numb3rs in Calculus class

I love how excited my students were today when I announced we were watching an episode of Numbers in Calc class. They didn't seem to mind that after the episode we were doing an activity using tangent and normal lines. I'm glad I could give them what a few referred to as "a great Friday" Thank you CBS for having this show. too bad the show was cancelled.

Halloween television

Tomorrow night, on abc, is one of the best halloween specials. "It's the great pumpkin, Charlie Brown" is on at 8:30. Airing before Charlie Brown is Toy Story of Terror. I'll have to set the DVR because I will be at school watching the volleyball game.

Christmas in Boston

I spent the day in Boston with my daughter, we went to a store called "Christmas in Boston". This store was two floors of nothing but Christmas ornaments.
Now I am excited for Christmas. 74 days until Christmas and Just 47 more school days left.

Start of the School year

We have completed our first ten days of school and I can say that I know I am going to have a great year. I love the classes I am teaching and I absolutely love all my students. I feel so lucky to have a job that I get excited about going to every morning. I only hope that I can make my classes enjoyable for my students. I need to show them that you can have fun while learning math. At least that is how I feel. I hope everyone reading this has a wonderful year.

Favorite time of the year

Yes, it is that time again. I am sure everyone is excited to get back to school. I know I am. I am teaching two AP Calc classes and one advanced math topics class. I am looking forward to a great year with awesome students. Things will be a little different for me this year. Neither of my children will be home. My daughter is starting her senior year of college and my sone begins his freshmen year of college. Both of them have to move into the dorms on Monday. So we will head North to Boston to move Jennifer into Wheelock college. We will return home to pack up Bryan's things and then head south to Buzzards Bay where we will move Bryan into Mass Maritime Academy. I hope everyone has a successful school year.

Math Day at Six Flags

It is my favorite time of the year. Time for the math field trip to Six Flags New England. I will check the weather every day, probably 5 times a day, in anticipation of our day. Hopefully we get dry warm weather. Three days ago there was a 70% chance of rain. Yesterday there was only a 30% chance of rain and today that percentage is a little lower. Thank goodness.

So glad we are going Friday and not Thursday. I will continue to keep an eye on the weather so check back again as we get closer.

Only 5 more days until we go.

Mathematics, Magic, and Mystery

April is national mathematics awareness month and this year's theme is mathematics, magic and mystery. Norton high will have its annual amazing race with questions that deal with this topic. If anyone has any ideas of other activities we can do to celebrate please let me know.

Math Field Trip

I have started planning our field trip, math day at six flags. This field trip is for all the Pre-Calc classes and the AP Calc class. we will be going on Friday May 2nd. I know that is far away, but we have to order and pay for the tickets before March 31st. Normal admission tickets cost $49.99 but we get a discount for an education group. The cost will be $42 which includes the admission and the bus. You will have to bring money with you to buy lunch. If Mu Alpha Theta can make some money with their fundraising then the honor society will help pay for the bus and I will return some money to you.
I will start collecting money when we return from vacation and you will have approximately 2 weeks to pay.

We will only be taking the first 88 students that pay. We will not return to school until 5pm to check your sports schedules and your work schedule.

Pi Day

March 14th is fast approaching. Wouldn't you love to have a pi day t-shirt to wear? You can order one from Mu Alpha Theta. See Mrs. Taylor with payment before February 14th.

Snow day?

So what do you think, will we have our third snow day of the year tomorrow? This is one snowy winter. There is even more snow in the forecast for Sunday/Monday. The only bad thing about missing school is that means less AP Calc classes before our big exam on May 7th.

Christmas is over now time to blog about snow

When the holidays are over I usually start blogging about weather, snow storms. I do so much writing about snow that I have now started a blog devoted solely to the weather.  http://marysweather.blogspot.com/

This winter has started off very snowy. I wonder how many snow days we will have? What is the highest amount of snow days that Norton High has had in the past 15 years? Maybe we will set the record this year.
