Enjoy the break

Finally a short vacation from school. I don't know about anyone else but I need this. I do not plan to do any school work so I am not assigning any school work to my students either. We are all going to take a break from math. I hope everyone enjoys their holiday and Happy New Year.

Soccer Team off to State Championship

Last night I watched the boys soccer team defeat Swampscott in the State Semi-Final at Manning Field. I had such a great night watching an exciting game. I have so many soccer players in math classes and I am so happy for them and extremely proud of them. Good Luck Saturday!
You know I will be there cheering you on. Go Lancers!

Holiday Specials on Television

If you have been in a store recently you have seen all the Christmas items out, you have heard Christmas songs on the radio and the holiday shows are already on TV. The hallmark channel shows Christmas movies every night and all day on the weekends. The UP channel is showing 5 or 6 Christmas movies every week. I am watching a Christmas movie on Hallmark channel as I am typing this post. I am watching "Let it Snow"
I know that Thanksgiving comes before Christmas but there aren't many Thanksgiving specials other than Charlie Brown which I have watched twice this year and the Macy Thanksgiving day parade which I never miss.
The first Christmas special (non movie) is "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" on ABC the 27th of November at 8pm. Then ABC is airing Charlie Brown Christmas at 8pm on the 30th of November. As we get closer to those dates I will start listing all the specials so you don't miss any. or you can check out these websites.

Winter yet?

The temperature today was in the low 70's and I decorated the window of the math office with snow flakes. Too early?

I do love everything about this time of year. Halloween, Thanksgiving, snow storms and CHRISTMAS. I do need to slow down though and enjoy Thanksgiving before I go crazy about Christmas. and maybe those snow storms never happen, who knows? or this year could be like last year. It was quite warm on Christmas day because I have pictures of my son outside in shorts on a nice warm sunny day and then we had more snow than any other winter.

Can you believe it isn't even Halloween and so many people and places are celebrating Christmas already. Stores have Christmas displays out and television stations are going to start airing Christmas specials this coming weekend. That means I need to start blogging about all the specials and let you know when and what station they are on. Check in here each week to find out when your favorite specials are on. The Hallmark Channel starts airing all Christmas movies on November 1st. ABC Family starts on November 20th with the countdown to the 25 days of Christmas. Th UP network starts showing their Christmas movies on November 1st.
I LOVE THIS TIME OF YEAR!

See Everyone soon - Are you ready?

I had a nice relaxing summer. except for the week I was at Disney World. No relaxing there, but I did have a lot of fun. Now its time to return to school. I have been in my office preparing 4 days this week. I always have mixed emotions at this time of year. I am sad that my summer break is over, but at the same time I am so excited to get back into the classroom. I LOVE teaching math.I just hope I make it fun for my students. See everyone in one week!

Summer Time

You would think that since I am on summer break I would not be doing math, but you would be wrong. Yesterday i spent 5 hours making a new curriculum for Senior Algebra II and I am not even a fourth of the way done. Today was spent on a new unit in Advanced math topics. I will average 3 days a week on school work this summer. I am not complaining. I love my job and writing lessons is one of my favorite things to do. The other 4 days of the week I try to have fun in the sun. I will make a few day trips to a variety of places and then at the end of July I will be at Disney World for a week. I make sure to have lots of fun in the summer. The only bad thing about the summer is that I do miss my students.

The Pre-Calc and Calc classes took the annual field trip to six flags for math day. I believe everyone had a great day. I know the chaperons enjoyed themselves. Here are a few pictures from the day. If anyone has more pictures to share please email them to me.

3-14-15

In the winter I spend so much time blogging on my weather blog that this blog tends to be forgotten, but there is a big math event coming up soon that needs to be written about. In math class we always round the value of pi to 3.14 but if you don't round off the value of pi is 3.1415. Put those numbers into a date on the calendar, 3.14.15 Which is only a few weeks away. March 14, 2015 is being considered "Mega Pi Day" Unfortunately the date falls on a Saturday so we will have to celebrate in school the Friday before. (Friday the 13th). Hope you will join me in celebrating this GREAT day in the math world.

A fantastic weekend

I always look forward to weekends but this one is extra special. Today I am celebrating my 10-year cancer free anniversary. I can't believe it has been 10 years. I think I can remember everything from that time. I still remember the doctor telling me I had cancer and the terrible feeling I got. I remember my awesome nurse Jennifer that helped me get through my surgery recovery and I remember everyone watching the superbowl in my hospital room. The Patriots beat the Eagles. Hopefully the Patriots will do the same this weekend and beat the Seahawks.
