Day 2 of my "Sandy" watch

As with every storm that is forecasted things change day to day. Yesterday the talk was that Sandy was goiung to make landfall in New England, today the landfall is predicted to be New Jersey so the impact on us will not be as severe. The timeline has also changed. Our worst day of weather should be Tuesday, when we will have heavy rain and some wind gusts will be 50+ mph. The following is a quote from WBZ Boston

"If Sandy makes landfall in New Jersey,We would experience something like a nasty nor’easter. Minor to moderate coastal flooding, periods of very heavy rainfall and winds gusting 40-60 mph (highest along the coast), causing some scattered tree damage and power outages.


The alternative would be much worse.

If Sandy curves west a bit later and comes ashore closer to southern New England, we would be in for an historic event, rivaling that of the Perfect Storm back in 1991."

Would have been a fun ride if it had swung up north! And we probably would have had a second/third day off from school!

The stories about the destruction in New Jersey make me so sad. The Boardwalk was such a historic place. People's childhood summertime rides just completely washed away. :(

I'm so glad I got a chance to go to the Boardwalk a couple years ago. It was such an iconic symbol of the Jersey Shore.

One School One Book

I have been reading the book "The Day the World Came to Town" and something is on my mind that I have to share with everyone. Can you believe how incredibly generous and trusting the people in Gander are? I would like to think that I would be the same, but I am not sure. I know that I would definately bring supplies to where ever the people were being placed, but I am not sure that I would open my house up to strangers. I couldn't get over how people were invited into the homes to take showers and the home owners would leave the house and tell them to make themselves at home. I would like to think that I could be that way, but I am not sure I would. What about you? Could you be that trusting of stangers?

What are you reading?

Have you read any good books lately? I am trying to find a great book for the incoming freshmen to read over the summer. The current freshmen class read "The Number Devil", but they didn't like that choice so I am trying to find something more enjoyable for the students. Right now I am reading "October Sky" by Homer Hickham. I am only 60 pages into the book, but I am enjoying the little that I have read. I would like to hear about any books that you have read and would recommend.
