Favorite Time of the Year

Image
I love this time of year. The Holiday season is here and that means some of my favorite TV shows and movies are on. This month we had all the horror flicks to watch but I would rather watch Hocus Pocus or its the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown. I have watched Hocus Pocus 3 times already. Unfortunately I don't have Apple Tv so I did not get to watch Charlie Brown. Too Bad that is not on traditional television any more.  Once November gets here we have Christmas specials and a couple of Thanksgiving specials. I love watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade on NBC and before that channel 5 WCVB usually televises the Plymouth Thanksgiving Parade the weekend before Thanksgiving. But There are hundreds of Christmas movies and specials. A couple of channels like Hallmark, UP and great american family have already started airing Christmas movies. I look forward to the old classic specials like "Frosty the Snowman" which is scheduled to air December 4th. I also enjoy Santa Cla...

Celtics Announcers

Image
I don't know about anyone else but I have to say that ever since Drew Carter joined Brian Scalabrine as a Celtics game announcer on NBC Sports Boston I enjoy the games much more. I don't want to say anything negative about Mike Gorman but the two current annuncers are much more exciting. So THANK YOU Drew and Brian for making the games so fun to watch even though the team hasn't won a game yet this season.

Walking at LaSalette Shrine

Image
I like to go for a walk every day but I get bored walking around my neighborhood so I drive to Lasalette Shrine in Attleboro, MA and walk around the beautiful grounds. I always like to light a candle for my sister and parents while I am there. Today the walk was made even more enjoyable as I looked at all the holiday decor set up for the annual lights which go on Thanksgiving night. My total walk was just under one mile and there are plenty of benches to just sit relax and take it all in.  Walking around the pond with the water fountains is my favorite part of the walk. And as an added bonus on Saturdays there is a farmers market in the morning right next to the pond.

A Day at the Bruins Game

I went to Boston Monday October 13th for a Bruins game and I wanted to tell you all the Boston experience.  First of all I reccomend you take thte commuter rail into the games at the garden. We took the train from Waltham into North Station which is at the Garden . So convenient and affordable. The train tickets are $10 for unlimited rides on the weekend including the Monday holiday and it was only $6 to park at the train station. That was only $26 for the two of us which is so much cheaper than if we drove into Boston and paid $50 to park at the Garden. Also kept us dry in the rainy weather.  Next I suggest you go to Banners  Restuarant for a meal before the game. You should make reservations to be sure you get a table on game day. Food was delicious and the portions were quite generous. We got a double cheese burger with fries and a fried chicken sandwich with fries and then 2 sodas and the cost was $43. Atmosphere was great with so many overly large TV scre...

Red Sox vs Yankees

Image
I am a big Red Sox fan! I love that they are in the playoffs, and I am really hoping for a win tonight, so the post season goes on. There is one thing about this series that has me pissed off and that is the fact that the Yankees would not let anyone from Massachusetts buy a ticket to any of the 3 games this series. Is that even legal? if it is, why is MLB allowing this to happen? I just feel that this is so wrong!! I can't recall the RedSox team ever doing this. I understand wanting to have hometown advantage so maybe you limit tickets to non-New Yorkers but that's not what they did and the more I write about it, the more upset I get. Any other Red Sox fans feel like this? I say during the regular season next year we don't allow New Yorkers to buy tickets to any games.....no that is wrong and that is not the Red Sox way. We are better than that.

Always planning a vacation

Image
I just got back from a short 2 day vacation in Booth Bay Harbor Maine and now I want to go somewhere else. The picture is my view from the top of the Pemaquid Point lighthouse. I'm not happy unless I am planning a vacation. That is what retirement has done to me. Unfortunately I have no where in mind except to plan a trip to my happy place. That means I have to save up for awhile. I am talking about a trip to Disney World. If I start saving now, I should be able to afford the trip in March. That's a nice time to fly to Florida. Hopefully all the snow is gone from the Northeast so my flight won't be canceled and the temperatures won't be too hot in Florida. I just wish it wasn't so expensive!

BYE BYE Devers

Image
I am so happy that he is gone! I know he has a good bat but he is so full of himself and NOT a team player. David Ortiz had the best quote "Your worst enemy is your ego" and Devers had a dam big ego. I hated that he stood at home plate and watched every ball expecting it to be a home room. I always found myself yelling at the tv "Run, you lazy sh__!" Maybe if he ran he would have had a double instead of a single.  Hopefully the locker room is a happier place and everyone else gets along. I really do believe that a positive vibe and players that all get along can win baseball games. We certainly have the talent. Let's Go Red Sox

Baseball

This time of year I am all about the Boston Red Sox. I have to admit I thought they would be having a much better season than they are. I strongly believe our weak spot is still the pitching. Our starting pitchers are not giving us enough innings, with the exception of Crochet. Bello is NOT as good as Alex Cora thinks he is. And Buhler just doesn't seem to have it. I hate saying negative things about them because they seem to be giving it their all. One player I don't mind being negative about is Devers. Ever since he told the team NO when they mentioned him playing first base. The appropriate response would have been "anything to help the team" . I guess he is not a team player. I better stop writing about him because my blood pressure is going up.  There is lots of talk about the trade deadline and I am not happy to hear Jarren Duran's name. I love watching him play, or should I say run around the bases. I think it would be a mistake to trade him. What do you th...

Mother of Groom shopping

Have you done any formal dress shopping lately? It is so hard to find stores that carry dresses. I just don't like to buy clothes online. I want to go into a store and physically try them on to see how the clothes look on me. Well my son is getting married later this year (so happy and excited about this) so I went out shopping with my cousin to find a dress. I went to Macy's in North Attleboro at the emerald square mall and found soooo many formal dresses. If you need a dress, this is the place to go. I found a dress I really liked but they only had sizes that were too big for me. Yesterday I went to Macy's in Natick and this store had the dress as well but only sizes too small for me. Fortunately I found an extremely helpful and happy sales woman named Helen. She found the dress in my size at several other Macy stores but also suggested that she order that dress and ship to my house. She also suggested that I open a Macy's free charge account to save 30%. So I did and...

Boston Sports

Any Boston sports fans out there? well I am! I just wish my teams were doing better. The Celtics started out great this season but they are faltering now. Hopefully they get back on track with a win tonight. I love watching Payton Pritchard come off the bench, he is always hustling and I enjoy Drew Carter and Brian Scalabrine with the call of the games.  Bruins....I'm not too sure of their season as I just watched them lose another one. Charlie McAvoy and Brad Marchand are my faves on this team. We have the break for the 4 nations games so maybe we can come back strong once play resumes. I am very hopeful for the Red Sox season starting soon. Spring training next week. YAY! One of these years I have to get to Florida to check out their spring training. Can't stand Devers at third base, he makes way too many errors! I do enjoy the hustle from Jarren Duran!  And then we have the Patriots. Love that our new coach is Mike Vrabel and happy that McDaniels is returning to the team. D...

Winter please go away

When I was teaching I always looked forward to a good snow storm that resulted in snow days. Now that I am retired I don't want the snow or the cold temperatures. I just want spring to get here so I can do things out doors. I am not enjoying the single digit temperatures we have had the past 2 days. Spring is still 57 days away. Winter is the one season that I do not take any trips either day trips or over night. I do have something to look forward to once spring gets here. My trip to upstate new York is 73 days away. I am going to Vernon downs for some horse racing. When my sister was alive, I would drive out to NY and we would always go to Turning Stone casino for the afternoon and then eat at the buffet before heading to Vernon Downs for the races. After the races we would go to the casino at Vernon Downs because they always had a live band on Saturday nights and every band I saw there was great. I will be doing the same thing on my sisters birthday in memory of her. I will be ...
